Here's What Happens When You Don't Optimise Your
Website For Potentially Profitable Keywords

I'm based in Northampton UK and if I'm scouring Google to make a purchase for, let's say... 'red wellington boots' for my daughter, I'm in a 'buyers' frame of mind and I want a pair of red wellies today.

I'd search for: buy red wellington boots northampton, buy red wellies northampton, red wellingtons northampton, red wellies northampton.

Now when Google returns its results and there's no website in the No.1 spot with what I'm looking for, so I can drive over to and pick a pair up, I'll check the No.2, No.3 spots and so on until I find a website that does.

Don't Give Your potential Customers The
Opportunity To Use Your Competitors

Here's a little test: I searched Google for "red wellington boots northampton" - click here to see what I found. What did you find?

Most probably this: Your search - "red wellington boots northampton" - did not match any documents.

Now that's a pity, because that means no one in Northampton selling red wellington boots, has taken the time to optimise their website for that specific search term.  Now you can't tell me that Northampton, quite a sizeable town, doesn't sell red wellingtons - they do, and lots of them. But hey, it's not the fault of the shopkeeper, they probably don't know the first thing about Search Engine Marketing in the UK, let alone optimising their website

Now, if I was in the Red Wellington Boot trade and I lived in Northampton and it just so happened that I was quite conversant at Search Engine Optimisation, how hard do you think it would be to gain a No.1 ranking in Google with just a little research and a little time? Very easy indeed!

You may not be selling Wellington Boots, but whatever you do sell, if your web pages aren't displaying what your potential customers want to see, they'll simply click away to the next website. In other words, you've lost that potential customer for good.

  • Keyword research - Using less-competitive but profitable keywords that describe your products or services.
